Picking Up A Hawaii Marriage License

PICKING UP THE HAWAII MARRIAGE LICENSE

The wedding couple MUST personally appear before a licensing agent together and show proper photo ID (drivers license, passport, state or government issued photo id, Military id) to pick up your state of Hawaii Marriage License Worksheet which is required by the minister/wedding officiate the on the day of the wedding ceremony.

PICK UP LICENSE FROM STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT:
The Honolulu marriage license office is located in the State Health Department building, called “Kinau Hale”, at 1250 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813.  Phone: (808) 586-4545. Hours of service: 8 am to 3:30 pm.

PICK UP LICENSE FROM LICENSED AGENT
Another option to pick up the license is through a Licensed Agent which is available by appointment only and they are typically available after hours and on weekends. Couples are required to complete the license application online prior to meeting with the Licensed Agent. For a list of Licensed Agents visit

CORRECTING ERRORS AND UPDATING NAMES ON HAWAII MARRIAGE LICENSE

When couples pick up their Hawaii Marriage License the agent will ask them both to review the information and let them know of any spelling errors or corrections to the information on the license. It is important that couples carefully review all of the information and let the Agent know so they can update the application and print a corrected Hawaii marriage license.

If couples do not notice an error until after leaving the Agent then the couple’s licensed Hawaii Wedding Officiant is able to update some, but not all, information on the license at the time of certifying the wedding online with the State of Hawaii after the ceremony. A wedding officiant can update:
– couple’s names after marriage.
– location of ceremony
– date of ceremony
– Performer of ceremony

If any other information needs to be updated you need to contact the Hawaii Department of Health (808) 586-4545 8 am to 3:30 pm Hawaii Time.

CHANGED MIND ABOUT NAME CHANGE ON HAWAII MARRIAGE LICENSE

If on your marriage license application you decided to not change your last name but then by the time your wedding day comes you changed your mind and decide to change your last name or hyphenate your names after all? Or did you think you wanted to change your last name but decided to keep your maiden name? Just let the wedding officiant know and they can update this online with the State of Hawaii at the time of certifying the marriage after the ceremony. Once the marriage is certified no changes can be made by the officiant and couples would need to contact the State of Hawaii directly.
