Weddings that take place in Hawaii are recognized by all countries around the World. Same-sex weddings will only be recognized in countries where same-sex marriage is legal. For residents of some foreign countries, an Apostille will be required for your Hawaii Marriage License for it to be accepted as legal proof of marriage by your home country. An Apostille is a special type of notarization of the Marriage Certificate so that the marriage is recognized by foreign countries who are members of the 1961 Hague Convention Treaty.
