Hooponopono Vow Renewal

Ho’oponopono Vow Renewal

Marriage is not always rainbows and smooth sailing, it requires constant nurturing, hard work, and commitment. If you are a married couple that has overcome challenges in your marriage, this vow renewal allows you to let go of past traumas and reaffirm your love and commitment to your marriage. This special vow renewal incorporates several Hawaii traditions including the Hawaiian practice of Ho’oponopono, which means to bring into balance and make things right.

The practice of Ho’oponopono involves singing to each other the following phrases:
“I am sorry. Please forgive me. I thank you. I love you.”
I use a recording that you sing along together at the same time while you are holding hands and looking into each others eyes. This practice gives an emotional release and gives couples an opportunity to connect on a deep level and open to heal.

Honi Honi with Ha Breath of Life Unity Ceremony

After reconnecting through Ho’oponopono, together you will then release, let go of the past, and recenter with a big deep cleansing breath. I will then ask you to come together and touch foreheads and noses and take a deep breath in through your noses sharing a breath of Life together, this is called Ha in Hawaiian. This practice is called Honi Honi and it is done as a symbol of deep love and respect in the Hawaiian culture.

You may re-exchange your rings, however, I more frequently encounter that many married couples do not want to remove their wedding rings or can’t remove them anymore. An alternative to re-exchanging your wedding rings is exchanging fresh leis instead as you reaffirm your vows and say any words of love or your own personal vows. You may provide your own leis or I can provide 2 variegated purple and white dendrobium orchid leis for an additional $60.

During exchange of personal vows you may speak in any language you feel most comfortable speaking. I do not need to understand what is being said. You may also speak for however long you wish and may bring notes written down or on your phone.

Before I declare your vows reaffirmed together you will perform the Hawaii tradition of the lava rock and ti leaf. In Hawaiian culture it is believed that the leaves of a ti plant brings good luck and protect from negative energy. The lava rock represents your marriage. During the ceremony, together as a couple you wrap the lava rock in the ti leaf and place it at the ceremony spot to leave as an offering of protection of your marriage.

After pronouncing your vows reaffirmed a pineapple bubble machine will shower you in bubbles in celebration and I will take a couple of photos for you before presenting you with a ceremonial certificate of vow renewal.
