How To Get Married During The Pandemic

This couple planned to have their wedding ceremony on the beach but when Oahu’s beaches were closed due to the pandemic they had their ceremony on the lanai of their vacation rental which had a spectacular view of Diamond Head and Waikiki. The couple put their wedding ceremony on Facebook Live so family and friends could join them on their special day.

How to Get Married in Hawaii During the Pandemic on the island of Oahu

The restrictions in place due to the pandemic have caused couples to cancel, postpone, or change their wedding plans. Knowing what is permitted by law during the pandemic can be confusing and stressful trying to figure it out. This page will provide information to make getting married on Oahu during the pandemic simple.

Hawaii Pandemic Restrictions

With the restrictions in place due to the pandemic it has been challenging for couples who wanted to get married surrounded by family and friends.
Check https://www.oneoahu.org/reopening-strategy for the most current Oahu Pandemic Restrictions for Social Gatherings. Penalty for violating pandemic restrictions is $5,000 PER PERSON! Any couple choosing to violate this restriction is responsible for all tickets issued.

Have your wedding outside so there is lots of air flow and less likely to transfer germs and viruses.

How To Get Married On Oahu During The Pandemic Step by Step

What many couples are doing is having a small intimate wedding with just the couple or with just a few important people in their lives and they will have a big fancy wedding or reception with family and friends at a later time once it is safe to gather. I offer four types of options for getting married on Oahu: a wedding with ceremony at a Oahu location of your choosing, a Tattoo Wedding, a Just Make Us Legal wedding (similar to a courthouse wedding) with a simple ceremony or with no ceremony and the couple just signs the marriage certificate.

1) Choose the day and time you want to be married.
2) Apply for a Hawaii Marriage License online and choose Kimberly Marie Crinella as your wedding officiate on the application. Pick up the marriage license together from the Department of Health within 30 days of your wedding day.
3a) Decide which of the 4 wedding options I offer that you would like.
3b) If you have a wedding with a ceremony and want to have a few guests verify the maximum number of people allowed to gather under current pandemic restrictions and do not invite more than allowed. (All fines are the wedding couples responsibility.)
4) Contact me to schedule me to officiate your wedding and pay the non-refundable deposit to secure the day and time.
5) Provide me your Hawaii Marriage License on the day of the ceremony along with any outstanding balance due.
6) I certify the marriage with the State of Hawaii the same day as the wedding. The couple will be emailed by the State of Hawaii within 3 days of getting married with a link to their Hawaii Marriage Certificate which can be printed and used as legal proof of marriage for insurance, Military housing, etc.

Some couples request a no ceremony wedding at my Kapolei office where I just make you legally married without any formal ceremony, the couple just signs the marriage license. I also offer a simple ceremony at my Kapolei office with just the couple similar to a courthouse wedding. The couple may exchange rings and say vows.
The couple schedules an appointment to come to my Kapolei office and secures the day and time with a $50 non-refundable deposit. On the scheduled day/time when we meet the couple provides me their marriage license from the State of Hawaii issued within the last 30 days. I certify the marriage online with the State of Hawaii the same day and 3 business days later the State of Hawaii will email you a link where you can download your marriage certificate which is a legal document proof of marriage to use for insurance, the Military, etc.
Just Make Us Legal no ceremony wedding $150 plus tax.

What is a wedding with a ceremony?

I officiate a personalized non-religious wedding ceremony inspired by the love of the couple at a Oahu location of your choosing. I interview you on the phone or by email asking you some personal questions and then I create a ceremony inspired by your love as a couple or a fun theme. If you want a wedding with a ceremony as your Wedding Officiant:
❤️ I will provide up to one hour of pre wedding consultation by phone and/or email to answer your questions, find more about you as a couple and find out your ideas for the ceremony.
❤️ I will create a script for your wedding ceremony that is inspired by Love and you, the couple.
❤️ You may write your own words of Love to say during the ring exchange portion of the ceremony or I can create something for you to say.
❤️ Popular island wedding traditions like a lei exchange or sand unity ceremony can be incorporated into your wedding at no additional charge. You would provide the leis for the lei exchange or for the sand unity I have wooden bowls you may use if you want to incorporate one.
❤️ You may choose a ceremony location anywhere on Oahu. During the pandemic consider renting a private beach house to have your ceremony to ensure it will be available for your ceremony and no special permit will be required. Public beaches and parks may be closed without notice during the pandemic. Permits may be required for State and C&C Beach and Parks if they are open for events.
❤️ On the day of your wedding I will be available for up to one hour after the agreed upon meeting time to perform the ceremony. If I am needed longer than 1 hour due to delays my rate is $75 for each additional hour or fraction of.
❤️ On the day of your wedding, after the ceremony, I certify the marriage online with the State of Hawaii making a legal record of your marriage. The State will email you a few days after the wedding with a link to your downloadable marriage certificate which is a legal document that can be used for insurance and military housing.
❤️ I am happy to incorporate special requests or other wedding traditions into your ceremony to make it personal and meaningful for you. I can also incorporate a special theme you have selected for your wedding into the ceremony.

This couple had an intimate love filled ceremony with just the two of them on the beach just before sunset. They used orchids to create a circle of flowers for the ceremony spot on the sand next to the ocean. They also incorporated a lei exchange during the ceremony to represent their giving their love and lives to one another. They had a photographer to capture memories they could share with family and friends since no more than 5 people could gather due to pandemic restrictions. Not even a pandemic could stop their love!

MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION

A marriage license is required from the State of Hawaii to be legally married and can be applied for and picked up the same day business day in Honolulu – Room 101 (1st floor) of the Health Department Building, 1250 Punchbowl St. (corner of Beretania and Punchbowl Streets), Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The wedding couple must apply for the marriage license themselves and appear in person together to provide a valid ID, complete a marriage license application, and pay the license fee. The marriage license is valid for 30 days once issued. I recommend going online to complete the marriage license application portion and pay the fee ahead of time. This allows you to save time when picking up the license. Detailed instructions on how to apply for a Hawaii marriage license is provided at https://weddingsonoahu.com/hawaii-marriage-license/

If you can not make it to the Dept. Of Health during business hours there are after hour agents who will meet you at a designated time and place (like Starbucks) to show your proof of identity and pick up the license. A list of authorized agents that may issue the Hawaii marriage license around the island of Oahu is available at https://health.hawaii.gov/vitalrecords/marriage-licenses/license-agents/

Bring the marriage license they issue you with you on the day of your ceremony. I need this document to certify your marriage making you legally married after I officiate the ceremony. Review to ensure the first, middle and last name for each person before and after marriage is accurate and report all discrepancies to me prior to ceremony.

SECURING YOUR RESERVATION

I require a $50 non refundable deposit through Venmo, PayPal, debit card or credit card to secure your reservation and create the ceremony script. The balance can be paid by Venmo prior to the ceremony or cash on the day of the ceremony.

If you would like to hire me as your wedding officiant I will work with you to finalize the details, answer questions, provide you instructions for getting your marriage license, secure the date/time, and create a beautiful ceremony for you.

Please note I am a Wedding Officiant and not a Wedding Planner and do not assist couples in securing locations, securing other services, or purchasing items for the wedding ceremony.

Please contact me with questions and to check availability.
